We have an exciting opportunity for a SQL Server DBA to join a leading client based in Nottinghamshire. As the SQL Server DBA you must be capable of working independently and as a part of a team whilst following delivery governance processes. Have a strong technical background combined with a desire to continuously improve the quality of service provided to our clients customers is key.

You will manage and support the Oracle RDBMS, MS SQL and any future database technologies in a way that is sensitive to and delivers business systems. Manage resources to deliver services to internal users including the provision and management of database technologies, future or current, delivering to SLA, budget and quality targets in accordance with appropriate standards.

Role Responsibilities

  • Maintain all RDBMS platforms to support the business strategy, agree service level agreements with business relationship managers and customers and plan all aspects of services necessary to ensure that support agreements are delivered
  • Maintain the support plan for systems including all the activities needed to support and maintain the infrastructure including managing the infrastructure roadmap of scheduled product upgrades, updates, technology refreshes, and major software patching, firmware, or service pack releases
  • Monitor and ensure all developments comply to the Roadmap - (i.e benefit the business, reduce risk, reduce the support requirement, reduce cost, provide competitive edge, operate robustly and effectively)
  • Maintain procedures and documentation for systems support including skill and capability development plans
  • Use management software and tools to investigate issues, collect performance statistics and create reports
  • Maintain system designs and plans to fit business requirements identifying risks and opportunities
  • Support the development of business requirements into a design which will become the blueprint for the solution
  • Stay abreast of the latest techniques and introduce future technologies and systems to the company
  • Provide advice for operating platform, infrastructure technologies, communications and networks
  • Support the Team Lead, Operations Manager, Hosting, Networking, Database teams.
  • Mentor Junior Team members

Your Skills and Experience;

  • ITIL methodology
  • Oracle RDBMS, MS SQL and related technical training and certifications desirable
  • Good communication skills by written, oral and electronic means appropriate to the relevant audiences
  • Good knowledge of current and emerging database technologies including all Oracle RDBMS and MS SQL technologies, archiving, data management, disaster recovery, performance optimisation, security and continuity planning
  • Good knowledge of delivering highly available, reliable and effective infrastructure platforms that enable business systems with knowledge of technical problem solving and delivery using ITIL methodologies to SLA targets
  • Good understanding of strategies and procedures across the IT service lifecycle (including the development lifecycle) in email and internet design, delivery and maintenance.
  • Able to assess and advise on the scope of options for process improvements across email and internet services
  • Experience in planning, management and delivery of business systems and services.
  • Experience of setting standards, strategies and procedures across the IT service lifecycle (including the development lifecycle) in the area of exchange and internet services delivery and support, and ensures that practitioners adhere to them
  • Evidence of delivering high quality, major IT solutions to a diverse workforce
  • In depth knowledge of RDBMS Technologies, preferably Data Warehouse or Data Lakes
  • Able to assess and advise on the scope of options for process improvements across email and internet services
  • Experience of planning, management and delivery of business systems and services.
